The team from Moscow’s Skolkovo School of Management scored a near perfect 6 points from 5 races to announce their presence on the MBA sailing circuit, leaving the rest of the pack trailing in their wake. The Global MBA Trophy regatta, in Piraeus, Greece, saw 8 teams competing in Platu 25 Sportsboats in Division A and 3 teams compete in Bavaria 42s in Division B.
Skolkovo came first in the last four races, having come second in the first race of the regatta. Nearest challengers LBS scored three times as many points with 18, while the third place of the podium was taken up by the INSEAD/MIP/Bocconi mixed crew with 20 points.
The third place INSEAD mixed team and fourth place Henly were both unfortunate to miss out on the higher places: Henly managed to miss the start of the third race, while INSEAD were over the start line in race 4, and didn’t duck back over, so were disqualified. This compounded their misfortune in race 3, when they headed back for a third circuit of the race course, leaving LBS and Bocconi 2 to sail past them to the finish of the two- lap race. Indeed without these misfortunes, the more consistent LBS team would have been 4th rather than 2nd.
Division B was won by MIP, with Skolkovo taking second place and LBS third.
This was the Global MBA Trophy’s 10th edition, since the regatta began in 2006.
