Global MBA Trophy 2021 called off

The organisers of the Global MBA Trophy regatta which was due to take place in Piraeus, Greece at the end of April 2021 have announced that it will not be taking place.

They issued the following statement:

As we all probably expected, it’s become clear that we will not be able to run the Global MBA Trophy regatta in April. The Organisers, London Business School Alumni Sailing Club and the Yacht Club of Greece called off the regatta on 10th April.

There are a number of factors to the decision:

The ongoing lockdown, curfew etc.. in Athens and Attica, for which I do not believe there is a date for it to be lifted before May.The banning of all non- essential overseas flights from the UK until at least 17 May, meaning competitors resident in the UK will be unable to travel. There are similar travel bans in place in other countries. The fact that we have only got four boats registered and paid a deposit.

We would like to attempt to run the regatta again in September (23- 26) or October(21 – 24), but need to make sure that there is a free slot in the MBA sailing calendar at that time. If not, we will be back in April 2022
