Moscow’s Skolkovo school of management finished the season in a commanding position at the top of the MBA Global Sailing League. With three regatta wins and two third places, including their score at the season’s finale in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, they scored consistently well to come out 7 points ahead of second-placed INSEAD. The organisers of the Global MBA Trophy have announced the regatta’s return to warm, sunny Greece in 2020
The regatta’s 16th edition will take place in it’s traditional setting of Microlimano in Piraeus, the port of Athens.
Hosted by the prestigious Yacht Club of Greece, participants will race one design Platu 25 sports boats in division A and 40 ft cruising boats in division B. Early bird participation fee per boat is €2,625 (Div A) and €4,200 for Div B. Deposit required by 12 January 2020. Late applications pay €200(A) or €300(B) more/boat . Accommodation is ashore for Div A and on boats for Div B.

With just one regatta to go, the 2019 MBA Global Sailing League is neck and neck, with INSEAD and Skolkovo tied on 17 points, and LBS just 4 points behind.

Skolkovo brought in their second victory of the 2019 season with the win in Capri at the Alumni Business Cup, organised by MIP. It was a close- fought regatta, the Russian team winning by 4 points thanks to two race wins and a win in the shore games, against INSEAD 2’s three race wins, but inconsistent form in races 3 and 4 cost INSEAD 2 the regatta. The Global MBA Trophy, in its 15th edition, moved to England and the Isle of Wight for an offshore version: A 50nautical mile circumnavigation of the island. The race took place on Friday 26th April, setting off early at 0800 to catch the best tidal currents and was raced hard through the Solent and around the South side of the island.
The front of the fleet was a battle between home team LBS, Skolkovo and INSEAD, with LBS leading up to the last mark, where they decided to not drop their spinnaker, only to see INSEAD slip inside them and away. Scoring a second place in the First 36.7 fleet at the MBA’s Cup regatta in Italy, first place at the Global MBA Trophy in Greece and second at the MBA Winter regatta in Lanzarote, MIP advanced to the top of the MBA sailing league as the season ended. This is the first time the team from Milan have won the league. The full league table can be found here.
In a year where there was no ABC regatta, all five results counted, which meant that Skolkovo, who had been leading the standings with three first places in Lanzarote, The Solent and Porto missed out by scoring 20 points by not participating in Sta Margherita.
