
The IE team took a tough route to winning the 20th Global MBA Trophy in Greece. The school from Madrid qualified for the Gold Fleet on Saturday by winning the qualifying round in the Platu fleet taking one win and two second places forward. They then scored a second, a first and a third in the RS21 Gold fleet to end the regatta with 8 points.
The regatta took place on 17 & 18 April in the bay of Faliron, off Microlimano harbour in Piraeus, Greece. It was organised by London Business School Alumni Sailing Club and hosted by the Yacht Club of Greece.
Second place SDA Bocconi, in the RS21s throughout scored 1,2,3 in qualifying and 1,4,2 in the Gold fleet, ending with 9 points. POLIMI GSoM were third with 11 points, winning the last race. Day 1 leaders London Business School qualified with a 1,1,2, but has to retire from day 2 with gear failure, ending in 5th place.
In the Silver fleet, SDA Bocconi’s other crew finished in first, winning the last race, Warwick were second, winning the first race of the finals series, and HEC were third.
In the B+ division of cruiser- racer boats, AUEB’s teams took the top two places for the second year running: the winning crew AUEB1 taking 5 firsts and a second to dominate the regatta. AUEB2 won the last race, while Wharton ended the regatta in third, with two second places.
In the B division of cruising boats, Yale 1 came home the winners with three first places, Tuck 4 were second with two wins, and Yale 2 were third winning the last race.
