London Business School Retain the MBA Sailing League Title

London Business School’s consistent performances in 2014 have delivered them their third MBA Sailing league championship in a row.

LBS didnt finish lower than 5th in any of this year’s five qualifying regattas, winning at the Cranfield regatta, coming second at the Global MBA trophy and third at the RSM regatta.

HEC made a strong showing in second place, despite missing the Global MBA trophy’s A division and the RSM regatta.

INSEAD, 2011 winners and runners- up in 2012 and 2013 could only manage 5th, after missing the Cranfield regatta and finishing 12th at the Rolex MBAs regatta.

Kelloggg/WHU were 3rd and Bocconi 4th.

London Business School Win Cranfield Regatta

2 (100)London Business School retained the Cranfield Regatta trophy in fine style, winning all five races to score a perfect four points  (including discard). The rankings leaders brought their A team and their A game to the regatta, following their disappointing performance at the ABC in France.

Home team Cranfield 3  came second with three second places in the last three races, while third- in- the-rankings  Kellogg/WHU brought home third, coming second in the first two races.

Bath and Cranfield 1 filled out the top five.

The Cranfield Regatta, now in its 23rd year, is the longest – running of the MBA regattas, and  one of the best attended: 19 boats competed for the trophy this year (albeit with 8 from the home school, and one representing State Street Corp.)

the racing took place on the Solent, the stretch of water between the South coast of England and the Isle of Wight. Day one started with winds at 20 knots gusting into the high 20s, leading to poling out of the Genoa on the downwinds.  Spinnakers came out by the end of the day, and Sunday was perfect Spinnaker- flying weather. Skolkovo announce their presence on the MBA sailing circuit with a big win in Greece!

The team from Moscow’s Skolkovo School of Management scored a near perfect 6 points from 5 races to announce their presence on the MBA sailing circuit, leaving the rest of the pack trailing in their wake.  The Global MBA Trophy regatta, in Piraeus, Greece, saw 8 teams competing in Platu 25 Sportsboats in Division A and 3 teams compete in Bavaria 42s in Division B.

Skolkovo came first in the last four races, having come second in the first race of the regatta. Nearest challengers LBS scored three times as many points with 18, while the third place of the podium was taken up by the INSEAD/MIP/Bocconi mixed crew with 20 points. Global MBA Trophy Dates Announced

The 2014 Global MBA Trophy will take place at the Microlimano harbour in Piraeus, Greece on the 24th, 25th and 26th of April.

This is the 10th edition of the regatta.  There will be 2 divisions: Division A sailing identical 25ft Platu one- design boats (up to 6 persons per boat) and Division B sailing Bavaria 42s (up to 8 persons per boat).   Accomodation is ashore for Division A, and on the boats for Division B.

The usual fantastic on- shore events will be provided.

London Business School Win the 2013 MBA Sailing League

London Business School have won the MBA Sailing League 182131_361050597296498_1517972939_n-e1344174985834for the second year in a row.  Despite their effective 16th place at the Rolex MBA’s Cup, and their main rivals INSEAD coming home in 7th equal, the INSEAD team could not overcome the handicap of not having sailed at the Cranfield regatta in July. INSEAD come second equal  for the second year in a row, with the Kellogg/WHU team their partners in second place. The top five are rounded out by Cranfield in 4th and Rotterdam in 5th, both there for the second year in succession.

INSEAD climb 2 places above Cranfield who didn’t compete in Italy.  EFPL climb 8 places to 6th, Manchester 7 places to 7th, and Tuck 6 places to 8th equal. Meanwhile Warwick, AUEB, Bath and Henley drop out of the top 10.

LBS won the league by winning at the Global MBA Trophy in Athens, Greece and the Cranfield Regatta in the Solent, UK. Insead strike back at RSM Regatta

Insead and LBS have between them won all the regattas of the 2013 MBA sailing league so far. In Lelystad, for the RSM regatta, it was Insead’s turn to bring home the trophy. The Insead team led by Ingrid Van Wees won three of the six races completed, came second in two and third in the last one.  Second place was taken by Yannis Pagoulatos’s Rotterdam School of Management crew, who were consistent through the second day of the regatta, with three 2s and a 1, while coming 3rd in both races on day 1.  The podium was completed by LBS, who couldnt find consistency: Despite two first places and a second, their 3,4,5 on day two cost them dearly. London Business School Stay top of the league

LBS-Sailing-LogoDespite INSEAD’s win at the ABC regatta,  London Business School’s second place keeps them at the top of the 2013 league, albeit with only 1 point seperating them from INSEAD.

The League table for 2013 only contains results from two regattas so far: the Global MBA Trophy and the Alumni Business Cup.

Kellogg/WHU, who were part of the “MBA Fastnet” team at the ABC, drop one place to third. AUEB also part of that team drop to fourth. HEC’s third place at the regatta means they come into the league in 5th place, level with Warwick, who missed the action in Marseille.

London Consolidate on top of the rankings

182131_361050597296498_1517972939_n-e1344174985834London Business School’s first place in the Global MBA trophy means that they consolidate their place at the top of the MBA Sailing rankings, with their lead growing to 8 points over INSEAD.

Second Place in  Athens’ Kellogg/WHU climb 3 places in the rankings to 8th. 3rd place INSEAD remain at second, while AUEB re- enter the rankings at 24th.

Bocconi, who missed the Athens regatta this year, while winning in 2012, slip one place to 4th while Cranfield rise to third. Continue reading “London Consolidate on top of the rankings”
