The IE crew led by Caroline Klass won in style on the second day of the Halloween regatta held in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. The host team came away with two wins a second and a third, to head the table on 4 points after a discard. It was Caroline’s first regatta as skipper of a keelboat, and she and her crew took full advantage of the light conditions.
The regatta, sailed in J/80 keelboats did not manage a single race on the first day of the programme, as Lanzarote’s ever- reliable winds proved unreliable. The committee managed one start, but had to abandon the race after the top mark. On day two, the winds were more helpful, and the race officer managed to get five starts away on a short race course, although the final race was again abandoned as the breeze died.
The podium was made up of Imperial in second with 6 points and LBS in third with 7.
The regatta, in its new autumn slot, is organised by IE business school’s sailing club. It was the 9th edition of the event, after a 2 year break for the pandemic. 8 crews from 5 business schools competed for the title. An “Adventure” programme of events was also laid on for non- racers. The participants were hosted at a local hotel and celebrated with a halloween – themed fancy- dress party.
