INSEAD are the 2017 Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League Champions

22449793_870626063096960_908794931433048489_nAfter scoring their third first place of the year at the Rolex MBA’s Conference and Regatta, INSEAD stamped their authority on the league, scoring half the points of their two nearest rivals. The full league table can be found here.

INSEAD won at the start of the season in Lanzarote, in the middle of the year on the Solent, and then at the end of the season at Santa Margherita. In the meantime, they came third at the ABC and 4th at the Global MBA Trophy, and discard their points from the RSM regatta. INSEAD share the Rolex spoils with Tuck in Santa Margherita

22047993_1957689321112455_4413410634771941142_oThe final regatta of the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League, the Rolex MBA’s Conference and Regatta, was as usual the biggest event of the year, featuring 50 boats and 400 sailors.

The “A” division was split into an “Open” class of 10 J70s and an “Offshore” class of 9 Beneteau 36.7s.

INSEAD took their third title of the season to win the Open class, capping off a dominant year with three first places out of five. Second place was 2016’s winner of the MBA’s cup, MIT with IESE third.

Tuck, in their only regatta of the year, won a very competitive Offshore class, with two firsts. HEC and Goethe rounded off the podium, winning a race each.

The MBA’s cup was presented jointly to INSEAD and Tuck along with a joint INSEAD/ Bocconi team in the “Cruising” class of handicapped non- spinnaker boats. Continue reading “INSEAD share the Rolex spoils with Tuck in Santa Margherita”

Skolkovo are the 2015 Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League Champions

skolkovo logoMoscow’s Skolkovo School of Management, in only their second year participating in the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League have emerged as champions.

Despite being unable to compete at the Rolex MBA’s Regatta in Santa Margharita Ligure, and so scoring a maximum 19 points for that regatta, their consistent first and second places in the other regattas of the season has meant that they out- score London Business School, whose joint seventh place in the Bocconi – organised regatta gives them 25 points to Skolkovo’s 24.

Skolkovo have taken the league by storm in 2015. where they were able to compete, they won in Athens, Le Havre and Medemblik, and were second to a local pro skipper in the Solent. Continue reading “Skolkovo are the 2015 Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League Champions”

MIT make it two years in a row at the Rolex regatta

For the second year running, the crew from MIT Sloan won the Rolex MBA Conference and regatta. They were held close by a strong Bocconi team.

The regatta, as always, took place off the Ligurian coast, based out of Santa Margharita Ligure, Italy.

The MIT crew had come first in the Beneteau 36.7 division on Friday and Saturday on countback,  on the same points as Bocconi, both teams winning two races and coming second in two.

They had a blip in Sunday’s semi- final, coming second to the team from IMD, but went on to win the four boat final, pushing Bocconi, who had won their own semi final,  into second place.

League leaders Skolkovo were not qualified to participate.

September 24-27 Confirmed dates for Rolex MBA Conference and Regatta

bocconi regattaTheRolex MBA conference and Regattahas confirmed the dates of the 2015 edition: 24 – “7 September.  The event will once again be held on the Ligurian coast at Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy.  This is the annual climax to the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League, when the size of the fleet means that a leading team needs to hold its own to be sure of coming in the top places of the league. The event is hosted by SDA Bocconi Sailing Club, and Yacht Club Italiano.

Participation is by invitation only.

The A Division is split between Beneteau 36.7 and Jeanneau Sunfast 37 yachts, who race on Friday and Saturday before the top boats face off in sports boats in a match racing finale.   The B division is made up of a mixture of boats who sail without spinnakers under a handicap system.

The onshore events are lavish, with welcome drinks on the Thursday, dinner and party on Friday and the legendary gala dinner on Saturday night.

The MBA Sailing League Welcomes Sunsail as Title Sponsor

Business Schools who have ranked highly in the league include London Business School, INSEAD, Kellogg, HEC, Bocconi and Cranfield.

London Business School Win the 2013 MBA Sailing League

London Business School have won the MBA Sailing League 182131_361050597296498_1517972939_n-e1344174985834for the second year in a row.  Despite their effective 16th place at the Rolex MBA’s Cup, and their main rivals INSEAD coming home in 7th equal, the INSEAD team could not overcome the handicap of not having sailed at the Cranfield regatta in July. INSEAD come second equal  for the second year in a row, with the Kellogg/WHU team their partners in second place. The top five are rounded out by Cranfield in 4th and Rotterdam in 5th, both there for the second year in succession.

INSEAD climb 2 places above Cranfield who didn’t compete in Italy.  EFPL climb 8 places to 6th, Manchester 7 places to 7th, and Tuck 6 places to 8th equal. Meanwhile Warwick, AUEB, Bath and Henley drop out of the top 10.

LBS won the league by winning at the Global MBA Trophy in Athens, Greece and the Cranfield Regatta in the Solent, UK. EPFL win back – to – back Rolex MBA Regattas

epflThe team from EPFL, Lausanne won their second Rolex MBA Regatta in Santa Margharita Ligure, Italy.  The EPFL team now have back- to- back successes, having been the champions of the same regatta in 2012.

The team from Manchester Business School came second, and the podium was rounded out with Tuck business school; Bocconi’s crew came in fourth.

EPFL won the Beneteau 36.7 fleet, then beat Tuck in the semi- finals, finally beating Manchester in the finals of the match racing.  The Jeanneau Sunfast 37 fleet was won by Tuck. London Business School Win the 2012 MBA Sailing League

London Business School, despite only managing 11th place in the Rolex MBAs Cup Regatta were only 2 places behind their main rivals, INSEAD, and so retained the lead in the 2012 MBA Sailing League to win the title for the second time.

INSEAD, with 9th place in the Bocconi regatta came second, while Bocconi, who were second in Santa Margharita came third.  Fourth and fifth places were claimed by Cranfield and Rotterdam – both with good showings in Italy. Continue reading “London Business School Win the 2012 MBA Sailing League”

Lausanne win the Rolex Regatta

EPFL,  Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne’s crew won the 2012 Rolex MBAs Conference and Regatta at Santa Margharita Ligure. It was only the second time the school had competed at the regatta.

EPFL won the Jeanneau 37 fleet, and then went on to win the match racing final against hosts SDA Bocconi, having beaten Cranfield in the semi- finals. This was Cranfield’s second participation in the regatta, and the second time that they’ve made the podium.

The Benneteau Fleet was won by Boconni, with Cranfield second and RSM third, while IE were second in the Jeanneau fleet, their best showing yet at the Rolex Regatta with Tuck in third.

2011’s winning team from Sauder could only manage 10th in the Benneteaus, while MBA Sailing league leaders LBS came one place behind their closest rivals, Insead  in 6th and 5th respectively in the Jeanneaus. Continue reading “Lausanne win the Rolex Regatta”
