Skolkovo’s crew won the IE MBA Winter regatta in March 2018.
MIP came second and IE 3rd in Lanzarote.

After scoring their third first place of the year at the Rolex MBA’s Conference and Regatta, INSEAD stamped their authority on the league, scoring half the points of their two nearest rivals. The full league table can be found here.
INSEAD won at the start of the season in Lanzarote, in the middle of the year on the Solent, and then at the end of the season at Santa Margherita. In the meantime, they came third at the ABC and 4th at the Global MBA Trophy, and discard their points from the RSM regatta. A combined Warwick and Kellogg-WHU team claimed first place at the RSM regatta in Porto, Portugal. Warwick have not won a regatta until now in the history of the league and WHU’s last victory dates back to the same event in 2012.
This was the first edition of the RSM regatta in its new roaming format: future editions will take place in various locations across Europe, rather than in the Netherlands. It was sailed in First 7.5 sports boats.
The win was down to consistent racing over the seven race series. The crew scoring first and second places in six races and a third in the seventh. Meanwhile, second place Skolkovo’s three first places were marred by an OCS and a DSQ for missing a gate. MIP and Chicago were level on points with MIP coming home with third, having won a race. The team from MIP Politecnico di Milano almost had the perfect regatta, securing first place in the first five races, before dropping to third for the final competition. Ugo Alvazzi del Frate’s crew held off strong challenges from Skolkovo and Bocconi, who finished second and third respectively.
The regatta, the second of the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League series, was held in the waters of the Faliron Bay, off Mikrolimano harbour in Pireaus, the port of Athens on the 28th and 29th April. racing was on Platu 25 sports boats, and was supervised by the Yacht Club of Greece, in whose amazing club house, the final prizegiving and dinner took place. Skolkovo Moscow School of Management came away from the 12th Global MBA Trophy in Mikrolimano, Pireaus, Greece with their third victory in three attempts. Their number 1 team put on a flawless display on day 1 of the regatta, finishing with three first places, and they rounded off day two with three seconds. This was 2016’s first regatta in the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League.
London Business School won second place, by winning the last race, and coming home second in the first two. INSEAD were third, while Skolkovo’s second team were punished for inconsistency, finishing fourth despite winning two races.
114 sailors arrived in Mikrolimano to sail on the 11 Platu 25s that made up the “A division, and the 7 Beneteau 49s in the “B” division. The regatta began with unseasonably strong winds on Thursday 21st April, which meant that crews were prevented from practicing by a “Lima” flag on the Yacht Club flagpole. Forced to enjoy the warm sunny weather, the sailors registered for the event, attended the briefing and then gathered at the Yacht Club of Greece’s magnificent clubhouse overlooking Pireaus and Faliron bay. Twelve teams will be vying to cross the start line first on Friday 17th April off Microlimano port in Pireas, Greece as the 2015 Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League kicks off.
The 2014 league champions, London Business School are hosting the event, and have one team in the A division. Defending regatta champions, Skolkovo have entered two boats. Expect big things from RSM regatta champions LUM, while INSEAD will be looking to do better than last year’s third place.
The regatta takes place over two days in Farr- designed Platu 25 keelboats. A B division, racing 40- ft boats will also take part.
Competitors are welcome in the race village from Thursday 16th. They will be hosted to a dinner on Friday evening and a gala prizegiving at the Yacht Club of Greece on Saturday 18th.

The team from Moscow’s Skolkovo School of Management scored a near perfect 6 points from 5 races to announce their presence on the MBA sailing circuit, leaving the rest of the pack trailing in their wake. The Global MBA Trophy regatta, in Piraeus, Greece, saw 8 teams competing in Platu 25 Sportsboats in Division A and 3 teams compete in Bavaria 42s in Division B.
Skolkovo came first in the last four races, having come second in the first race of the regatta. Nearest challengers LBS scored three times as many points with 18, while the third place of the podium was taken up by the INSEAD/MIP/Bocconi mixed crew with 20 points. London Business School’s first place in the Global MBA trophy means that they consolidate their place at the top of the MBA Sailing rankings, with their lead growing to 8 points over INSEAD.
Second Place in Athens’ Kellogg/WHU climb 3 places in the rankings to 8th. 3rd place INSEAD remain at second, while AUEB re- enter the rankings at 24th.
