ABC regatta 2024 cancelled

Message from the organisers of the Alumni Business Cup 2024:

The IE and LBS Sailing Clubs regret to announce that the 2024 edition of the Alumni Business Cup in Alicante will not be held as scheduled on 13-15 June. Logistical challenges, and the weekend falling during peak season in the Alicante sailing calendar, meant that we would have been unable to deliver the regatta at the advertised price.

While we are disappointed not to be able to host you in Alicante this June, we hope to be able to put together the event at another time in the near future. Thank you for your understanding, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Skolkovo victory in Capri

IMG_9829

Skolkovo brought in their second victory of the 2019 season with the win in Capri at the Alumni Business Cup, organised by MIP.  It was a close- fought regatta, the Russian team winning by 4 points thanks to two  race wins and a win in the shore games, against INSEAD 2’s three race wins, but inconsistent form in races 3 and 4 cost INSEAD 2 the regatta. LBS 1 round out the podium. Continue reading “Skolkovo victory in Capri”

Skolkovo retain the ABC title

The team from Skolkovo kept hold of the Alumni Business Cup trophy, through a strong performance on the water on the Ligurian coast off Sestri Levante, Italy. They pipped London Business School by just 2 points in the end, after a relatively poor performance in the onshore games, which LBS won.

This was the third regatta in the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League.

Evgeniya Semykina’s team won seven out of the ten races, with LBS taking six second places. But the onshore games could not be discarded, and so the regatta came down to the last two races.

Third place was taken by Marc LeBorgne’s INSEAD team, keeping the French School’s claim on the league going strong. HEC, Kellogg/WHU and a second INSEAD boat made up the six- strong fleet. Continue reading “Skolkovo retain the ABC title”

Skolkovo make it 2 from 2 regattas at ABC

The unstoppable Skolkovo sailing team continued where they had left off in Athens: winning six out of seven races on the waters of Le Havre, and also winning the onshore games: demonstrating impressive engineering skills.

The racing was in J80s, and in strong winds:  Friday’s sailing was delayed becaus they were too strong, and there were a number of races where spinnakers were banned.

INSEAD came home second, with the one win that Skolkovo couldn’t manage, 2 2nds, 2 3rds and a 5th, plus a third in the onshore games. HEC came in third, although level on points with INSEAD on the water.

There were 11 teams competing: Three from INSEAD, three from HEC, two from LBS, a combined LBS/MBS team and a team from Rotterdam joining the Skolkovo team on the water.

The action now moves on to the Cranfield regatta in the tidal currents of the Solent.
