Fastnet Rock

For 2013 a diverse group of members of the MBA Sailing League have embarked on a new challenge – to compete together as a team in one of the toughest yacht races in the world – the 2013 Fastnet campaign.

The 608 nautical mile Fastnet race has been since its founding in 1925 a true test of the marks of a sportsperson – skill, courage, and endurance. Held in August every two years, the race starts from The Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes. Yachts then race to the Fastnet Rock, and then to the finish line at the western end of the breakwater in Plymouth Harbour.

Team Heiner Volvo 60

The Fastnet race is a difficult test of both inshore and offshore skills, boats, and teams, with stringent preparation, training, and safety requirements to match. To this end, the crew have joined forces with Roy Heiner and his company Team Heiner to prepare, train, and race in the Fastnet on a Volvo 60 racing yacht.

Here on this page you’ll be able to find out about the progress of the team on our Fastnet journey.

2009 Cranfield Regatta Results

London Business School won the Cranfield regatta in emphatic style,  winning four out of the five races, and discarding a second place.

The regatta took place on 25 and 26 July 2009 in the Eastern Solent on the South coast of England.  LBS have been competing at the Cranfield regatta for almost a decade,  but have only won it twice – in 2007 and 2009.  Cranfield’s own “Buccaneers” came in second with a very strong first day’s 2,2,1. Smurfit made up the podium.

The full results and details of the regatta can be found here

IMD sailing teamIMD held onto the Alumni Business Cup for the second year in a row. Held  in Port Camarge, France on the 4th, 5th and 6th of June, the cup was fought out over 12 races and two “onshore games”. The racing was extremely close, with both IMD and LBS managing four first places in the regatta. There were just four points seperating LBS in first and IMD and Columbia after two days, but IMD’s 1, 4,2,2 on the final day brought the title home.

A review of the regatta, pictures and results  can be read here
