The Cranfield Regatta will hold its 27th edition on 13- 15 July 2018

The 2018 Cranfield Regatta will take place in the Solent, between the South coast of England and the Isle of Wight on 13th – 15th July 2018.

There will be 4 -6 races over two days

This is a vital regatta in the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League season because of the large number of participating boats – 13 boats in 2017, and up to 36 boats in the past. If a school misses out on the regatta, they are scored one point more than the number of boats involved, which can be very hard to overcome.

The boats are the largest in the league: 42 ft Beneteau F40s, with modifications made for Sunsail, sponsors of the league, and providers of the boats and regatta organisation.  Crews are 8 – strong.

The regatta hosts two parties: one on Friday night to welcome the crews to the venue and a gala night on the Saturday.  Details of how to sign up will be posted here once they are announced.

The regatta is hosted by Cranfield School of Management’s current MBA class.

Change to league calculations for 2017

Following a consultation among schools competing for the Sunsail MBA Global Sailing League, and following the expansion of the league to six events with the inclusion of the IE MBA Winter regatta, the way League is calculated has changed.

For the 2017 league, the scoring system is as follows:  For each regatta in which a school participates, they are awarded a score equal to their position in that regatta. If a school misses a regatta, they are awarded a score equal to the number of teams in that regatta plus one. The five lowest scores (from 6 regattas) for each team are added up, and the team with the lowest total is the league champion. If any two teams have the same score, the team which attended the fewer regattas is marked ahead.

Previously, the scores from all the regattas in the series were counted, without a discard.

The final league table for the 2017 season is shown here.

INSEAD won at the start of the season in Lanzarote, in the middle of the year on the Solent, and then at the end of the season at Santa Margherita.
